About the Workshop

The “Building Better Institutions” workshop will officially launch the Revised Accreditation Standards while providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of the accreditation process, its importance, and the critical requirements for attaining and maintaining accreditation status.

The workshop will address accreditation standards and frameworks, institutional self-assessment and evaluation, principles and practices of quality assurance, and the role of accreditation in institutional development, recognition, and sustainability.

This initiative aligns with BAC’s mandate to strengthen quality assurance systems and promote a culture of continuous improvement across the education and training sector in Barbados and the wider CARICOM region.

Dr. Ruby S. Alleyne - Lead Facilitator

Dr. Ruby S. Alleyne holds a PhD in Education from The University of the West Indies, with specialisation in higher education administration and organisation development. She is a trained teacher and teacher educator who has taught at both the secondary and tertiary levels.

Dr. Alleyne was the first Executive Director of the Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago (ACTT) in 2005 and later served as Vice-President, Quality Assurance and Institutional Effectiveness at the University of Trinidad and Tobago. She has also served as Deputy Chairman and Chairman of ACTT and as Chairman of the National Training Agency.

Over the years, Dr. Alleyne has provided technical assistance to countries throughout CARICOM in establishing accreditation systems and has contributed to policy development for the quality assurance of online and distance learning. She was honoured by CANQATE as a Lifetime Member in 2023 and is a member of INQAAHE’s pool of trained International Standards and Guidelines Reviewers.

Dr. Alleyne was also the Lead Consultant in the development of the CARICOM Qualifications Framework and currently serves as a member of the Commonwealth of Learning Transnational Qualifications Framework Management Committee.
